The Outtakes
Creating a book of this nature, with two authors who live on either side of the world, is by no means easy.
There was a lot of creative ping pong.
First you have to crack the idea, agree on it, then make it come to life – by writing and illustrating, re-writing and re-illustrating, changing your minds and minding the changes.
In fact, you really create the book like this twice: first as roughs, then as a complete version.
It’s an exhausting yet wonderful process of backwards and forth, trial and error, upside and downside.
Much like life.
Thankfully we were on the same page (no pun intended).
When something was right, it just clicked for both of us.
Both our professional backgrounds are in the creative side of advertising and branding.
We treated every letter as it’s own double page spread, in concept, layout, illustration and copy.
Some ideas – most ideas, in fact – didn’t make the cut.
We thought we might share with you some that didn’t and the reasons why.
We hope you enjoy this glimpse into the madness of making a book about balance.
